A 7-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle at North Forbes Road and WJ Valley Road in Plant City on Friday morning.
Elijah Gonzalez Cruz was transported to Tampa General Hospital.
According to deputies, Shirley Bowman was driving her blue Jeep Liberty southbound on Forbes Road with four passengers. She was traveling approximately 45 miles per hour. Cruz was waiting in the driveway of 619 Forbes Road to cross the street for the bus stop at Busser Lane and Forbes Road. Deputies say Elijah darted into the path of the Jeep as a lawn care truck was passing northbound.
Ms. Bowman did not have time to avoid the crash and hit Elijah. There were no injuries in the Jeep. Elijah remains in critical but stable condition.
Deputies say no charges are expected in the case.
