You may have gotten stuck in traffic Tuesday morning on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.

Hillsborough County officials said a depression opened up on the side of the road at Campus Hill Drive, slowing traffic down for hours.

Drivers summed up how they're feeling in one word: Frustrated.

Hillsborough County officials said the depression is 5 feet wide and 10 feet deep. They've filled it in for now, but they're still figuring out how to fix it for good.

On either side, there is unrelated storm water damage that still needs to be fixed.

“When you lose another lane, it just makes everything horrific," Diana Callow said.

She lives in the community off Campus Hill Drive. Callow cuts through a parking lot to avoid a turn across six lanes.

"We have a difficult time getting out without taking our lives in our own hands. We have accidents all the time," she said.

Now there are just five lanes here until that depression is fixed. It's an inconvenience and a safety concern.

“Sitting here 10, 15 minutes, nobody is courteous anymore and just lets you merge over," Rita Seay said.

“I certainly hope they fix it quickly, otherwise they could have some lives on their hands," another driver said.

The county said they're not sure how long this lane will be closed.
