He was and still is St. Joseph's Women's Hospital's biggest baby ever born. He was also one of the largest ever born in Florida.
Maxxzandra Ford, his mother, who is a twin, thought she might be having twins herself.
To her surprise, her first doctor's visit brought an even bigger one. Doctors told her she was already 35 weeks along.
"When I felt the head come out, I knew he was bigger than 10 pounds," Ford said at a news conference following Avery's birth.
After 18 hours of labor, she delivered Avery the old fashioned way – naturally.
Ford recalls being told by nurses, "Your baby weighed 14 pounds and one ounce... Your baby is like adorably huge."
Avery's weight had a lot of people talking. ABC Action News shared his picture on Facebook. The post reached nearly 22 million people.
Fast forward to today, Avery is an adorable toddler who is still getting a lot of attention.
Ford said her friends and family still see Avery's picture pop up in their Facebook and Twitter feeds.
Action News asked Ford, why do you think people are still talking about Avery?
"Normal babies are seven pounds, mine was 14. So, I was basically carrying twins in one big bundle," Ford said with a laugh.
How much does Avery weigh today? What is his favorite thing to do?
Bring out the cake!
You'll meet Avery Monday at 11 p.m. on ABC Action News as we celebrate his first birthday!
