St. Petersburg Police are investigating a fatal accident in St. Petersburg on Monday morning.

At approximately 5:40 a.m., a 2015 Ford F450 tow truck, driven by William Daniel Tabor, 35, was driving northbound on 34th Street North in the center lane and had stopped for the red light at 5th Avenue North. Tabor was towing a 2007 Ford.

At the same time, a woman in a wheelchair was crossing 34th Street North from the east side to the west side in the crosswalk along the south side of the intersection. The light changed from red to green as the woman in the wheelchair was making her way across. Tabor began driving his tow truck northbound and ended up hitting the woman in the wheelchair. The woman was thrown from the wheelchair onto the ground and under the tow truck.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:45 a.m. by the St. Petersburg Fire Department.

Police have not released the identity of the victim as they are still searching for next-of-kin.
