St. Pete police search for suspects after man shot during altercation in parking lot

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Police are investigating a shooting in St. Petersburg that left a man hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. 

Just before 3 a.m. Friday, detectives responded to a report of a person shot at 3200 37th Avenue North. When they arrived on scene they found Edwin Sprague, 49, suffering from a gunshot wound. 

According to Sprague, he met up with a woman at a gas station near 32nd Avenue and 34th Street North. They then drove to the Clear View Apartments located at 3200 37th Avenue North. They parked the car and while they were parked, another vehicle pulled in behind them and two unknown men approached them and started an altercation with them. Police say at some point, Sprague was shot.

Sprague was able to drive from the parking lot and flag down a cleaning crew at a nearby business for help. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Detectives are trying to identify the two unknown men involved in the case. The investigation is ongoing.
