Two people shot at Bay Vista Park in St. Pete, police searching for suspect

St. Petersburg Police dispatch says two people were shot at Bay Vista Park in St. Petersburg.

The call came in around 3:14 a.m. on Wednesday morning. 

The first victim, Joetavius Deon Whitson, 24, was shot by a suspect described as a black man, while a second black man stood by.

During the shooting, Willie Day Brown, 29, was driving into the park and was struck by gunfire. He drove out of the park and drove himself to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police found Whitson at the scene of the shooting and he was transported to the hospital where he underwent surgery. He is in critical but stable condition. 

Police say they do not know a motive for the shooting. 

The investigation is ongoing as police are working to identify any suspects in this case.
