Police investigating shooting death in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Police are investigating a shooting death in St. Petersburg.

Police responded to the 2000 block of Seminole Blvd South around 5:30 p.m. Monday. When they arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The man, who has not been identified at this time, was pronounced dead at the hospital, police say.

"Preliminary information is that it occurred while he was in an empty lot near a home at that location," St. Pete Police wrote in a press release. 

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and are in the early stages of this investigation. No additional information has been released at this time.
