Pedestrian killed on Gandy Boulevard in St. Pete, FHP investigating

A pedestrian was hit and killed on Gandy Boulevard in St. Pete on Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. 

The incident occurred at Gandy Boulevard near Brighton Bay Boulevard NE. 

A pedestrian was walking southbound across the eastbound lanes of Gandy Boulevard. Richard Hermes, 51, of St. Pete was driving his 2013 Honda Accord eastbound on Gandy Boulevard in the center lane. At the same time, Randi Zedeck, 56, of St. Pete was driving her 2013 Nissan Altima eastbound on Gandy Boulevard in the outside lane. The pedestrian reportedly walked into the path of Hermes' vehicle and was subsequently hit by the car. Hermes stopped his vehicle and the pedestrian came to a rest in the travel lanes. The pedestrian was struck by Zedeck's Nissan. Zedeck stopped her vehicle at the scene. The pedestrian died at the scene of the crash.
