Deputies arrested a man for leaving the scene of a crash after he hit an unmarked Pinellas County Sheriff's Office vehicle early Thursday morning.

According to investigators, at about 2:17 a.m., a violent crimes task force (VCTF) deputy was driving his marked car in the area of 7th Ave. S. and 9th St. S. in St. Pete. He saw a suspicious 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo driven by 27-year-old Timothy Jones.

The deputy reportedly pulled his cruiser behind the car when it stopped in the roadway along the curb. But then he sped away and ran several stop signs.

Deputies tried again to conduct a traffic stop on the car, while driving westbound on 14th Ave. S.

Lieutenant Euler was driving an unmarked Chevy Tahoe SB on 16th St.

Jones ran the stop sign and crashed into the driver's side of Euler's agency vehicle.

Jones got out and ran, but was taken into custody shortly after the crash.

Euler and Jones were each treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Jones was then taken to jail without incident and charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injury, resisting without violence, reckless driving with injury, and driving while license suspended and/or revoked.
