Douglas Hughes, the Ruskin man who landed his single-man aircraft on Capitol lawn last year, has ended his congressional campaign against Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of South Florida.

Instead, he now endorses candidate, Tim Canova. The following statement was posted on the Tim Canova for Congress' Facebook page.

My thanks to Doug Hughes for his gracious endorsement. You may know him as "the gyrocopter pilot," but he is so much more. He is a man of deep principle and love of country. Agree or disagree with his methods, his cause is our cause: to clean up our dirty politics, to remove corporate money and billionaire influence from our elections, and to restore our democracy. I wish him well in his upcoming challenges.

Hughes pled guilty in federal court in Washington for operating a gyrocopter without a license. Last year, he landed a gyrocopter on Capitol lawn that was carrying letters for each member of Congress. Hughes is scheduled to be sentenced at April 21.
