Hillsborough County Deputies arrested a reading teacher for Eisenhower Middle School in Gibsonton. 26-year-old Amett Santiago is being charged with molesting an 8-year-old girl.
According to the arrest report, the incident involved a family friend whom he was babysitting in October, 2014. He recently told a witness that he touched the victim under her clothes while she was sleeping but "didn't go all the way" with her, according to the report.
"To me, he seemed just like a regular, regular guy." Jon Sullivan, whose son was in Santiago's class last year, said. "If it does turn out to be true, it gives me pause because it's one of those things, you never know who's capable of this stuff."
Santiago was hired by Hillsborough County Schools in August of 2015. A spokesperson for the district tells ABC Action News Santiago resigned this morning. The spokesperson says Santiago did not have any other discipline actions in his file and the district was not given the impression from law enforcement that there are any students who could be other victims.
