Sarasota Police take barricaded man into custody

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Sarasota Police Department said an overnight situation with a barricaded man is over and he is now in custody.

David Conrad, 34, of Sarasota, has been arrested and is facing charges of felony battery / domestic battery by strangulation and resisting an officer without violence. Conrad is also being held at the Sarasota County Jail on a warrant for violation of probation out of Manatee County.

According to police, no force was used. A woman and small child that were in the home are safe.

According to a press release, police responded to the home is in the 1200 block of 40th Street on Sunday at 11 p.m. after a 911 call was made from the home. Officers say the man spoke briefly with them before he ran back inside.

Police said officers made contact with the man several times, but he didn't come back out. SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Unit were called around 1 a.m., police say.

The situation was resolved just after 6 a.m., according to police. No other information has been released at this time.

Police say the man does have a criminal history, which includes charges out of Manatee County of fleeing to elude, robbery with a firearm and drug possession. Police say the man is currently wanted for violation of probation for multiple robbery crimes.
