BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Manatee County Veterans council is reporting a vandalism that occurred at a memorial park on the campus of Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Chairman Edwin Robinson said someone had cut the chords to fifteen of the 24 flags that fly at the park.

“It angered me it saddened me, especially as we are coming into Memorial Day as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” Robinson said.

The group filed a report with the Bradenton Police Department.

Robinson said the vandalism was on the minds of the crowd at Monday’s Memorial Day service, but he said the event still happened.

“Respect for the flag and memorial day is something that was instilled in me for my father who served, somewhere that has gotten lost with the current generation,” Robinson said.

A local flag company is helping the group replace the flags free of charge.
