SARASOTA, Fla. — Two people are in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Sarasota on Sunday, according to police.
Officers say it happened at the intersection of Carver Street and Orange Avenue around 9 p.m.
Police have released limited details and are early in the investigation, but say the victims remain at Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say one of the victims is a teenager and the other in an adult. No other information on their identities has been released at this time.
"We’re continuing to look for witnesses and ask neighbors if they have any video perhaps a doorbell nearby and asking them if they saw anything," said Sarasota Police spokesperson Genevieve Judge.
Police believe the shooting happened on Carter Street next to a playground. They spent hours Sunday evening canvassing the area looking for witnesses and evidence.
Investigators say this appears to be an isolated incident.
"It’s heartbreaking anytime we get a call of any sort of violence that happened in our community and to know that a teenager and a young adult were both involved in this it’s heartbreaking to know that this happened," Judge said. "So our officers are gonna do what they do best and they’re gonna work to figure out who’s responsible and continue their investigation to the fullest."
