Two Sarasota Police Officers risked their own lives to help a woman in need. They were called Sunday morning to the Rivo at Ringling Condos in reference to a woman who was threatening suicide.

“She shimmed down some Christmas lights from the thirteenth floor to the twelfth floor,” said Sgt. Anthony Frangioni.

The officers rushed to the twelfth floor unit where the woman was standing on a balcony. They said as they tried to get close to her she jumped toward the edge of the balcony.

Sgt. Frangioni was able to grab her belt to stop her from going over the edge.

“I was holding her there for a few minutes waiting for more officers to arrive,” said Frangioni.

Eventually the officers were able to pull her back to safety where she was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

"This is a fork in the road for her, she got saved twice that day, once by Christmas lights and the other time by us, so she wasn't meant to die," said Frangioni.
