Deputies originally believed the shooting on Easter Sunday in Sarasota was self-defense.

James Cain told 911 that his daughter's ex-boyfriend was on his property located at 325 Myakka Rd. shooting at him.

Investigators arrived to find Jason Head dead on the ground with a gun in his hand.

"It was a self defense issue that he was attacked and shot at," said Lt. Joe Giasone.

But investigators confiscated surveillance video that is on the property.

Lt. Giasone said the video showed a very different story.

Investigators said Head was not armed.

They believe James Cain shot and killed Head.  They said Cain's son, Robert Cain, helped stage the scene.

Then, they allege that Robert Cain's girlfriend, Racquel Pontbriand drove Robert away from the scene.

"The video surveillance was crucial in this case that's what led us to knowing that the 911 caller was not telling us the truth," said Lt. Giasone.

Both of the Cains and Pontbriand were all arrested this week.

Police have not released a motive.
