SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — A street that runs right through a Sarasota high school will be permanently closed.

This week, the Sarasota City Commission voted to close School Avenue from Tami Sola Street to Hatton Street.

Previously, the road was only closed from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on school days but pedestrians could still access the road.

Officials call this a safety measure to protect the kids and school property.

The school district will now decide how to proceed with the road. They're scheduled to meet again in June.
