SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — A Sarasota caretaker was arrested for grand theft after allegedly stealing more than $100k froma 96-year-old client in less than 18 months.
The investigation began in August of 2018 when the Power of Attorney for the 96-year-old discovered suspicious credit card transactions made by Krystle McLeod, the caregiver and housekeeper.
Deputies say McLeod not only used the victim's credit cards, but also wrote and cashed 180 checks between March of 2017 and August of 2018.
She accepted payment for her services but also often wrote and cashed more than one check a day and used that money for personal purchases. Collectively the checks totaled $109,727.
She is charged with one felony count of grand theft from a person 65 or older.
She is in custody at Sarasota County jail and has prior arrests for child neglect, drug possession, resisting and officer and more.
