MYAKKA CITY, Fla. — An EF-0 tornado touched down Thursday morning in Myakka City, causing heavy damage for some homeowners. Residents on Kibler Ranch Road are picking up tree limbs and feeling thankful they weren’t harmed.

"It could have been very easily been our home falling down and collapsing on us,” said resident Debbie Rhoden.

Her yard is full of tree limbs. A large branch even fell onto her home. She said he had just enough time to hide for the storm. “I grabbed my granddaughter and we hid in the bathroom,” said Rhoden.

Flooding made the cleanup effort even more difficult. Several roads in the area were impassable.

Manatee County officials did not report any injuries from the Thursday storms. Representatives from the National Weather Service will be surveying the damage.

"You never expect to be in something like this, you just expect it to be somewhere else. It’s like a rattlesnake you never know when you’re going to get bit,” said Rhoden.
