Police arrested a suspect who reportedly shoplifted from a Holmes Beach gas station and punched the female clerk multiple times when he was confronted.
The incident occurred on March 22 at approximately 8:45 p.m. at Jessie's Island Store on Holmes Beach.
Jason Bounds, 44, was arrested on April 17, 2018. He has been charged with one count of Battery (second or subsequent offense), and one count of Resisting a Merchant.
During the incident, Bounds attempted to conceal a bottle of beer, a pint of milk and 10 cheese and beef sticks in the pocket of his hooded jacket.
Police say the clerk confronted Bounds and he punched her several times in the head, ear and abdomen. She tried to detain Bounds but he was able to free himself and run away from the store. A search was conducted with a K-9 Deputy and officers but they were unable to locate Bounds at the time.
The incident was captured on video surveillance system. ABC Action News has requested the surveillance video.
