MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — Manatee County deputies are starting an undercover burglary task force. Investigators said they’ve seen about a 40-percent spike this year in car break-ins.

“It’s really in all parts of the county,” said MCSO spokesperson Dave Bristow.

Bristow said they will use crime data to decide when and where they run the operations.

Palmetto resident Walter Dublin said he is in favor of the task force.  Several cars were recently broken into near his home.

“Locking your car doors taking in valuables things like that would really help,” said Dublin.

The task force will run about a month.
