PALMETTO, Fla. -- A man is accused of stabbing a woman to death while the couple's children were home in Palmetto.

The Palmetto Police Department responded to a call of a stabbing in the 1200 block of 2nd Avenue West on Sunday morning around 8:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found the body of 29-year-old Jessica Martinez-Lumbreras, who suffered multiple stab wounds, according to police.

The man who let police inside the home, 38-year-old Julian Ortiz-Castillo, also had some stab wounds. According to police, the couple's four children were sleeping in their bedrooms when officers arrived.

According to police, the couple had hosted a party for their friends the night before. The couple began arguing after the guests left, which ended with Martinez-Lumbreras being stabbed to death.

Ortiz-Castillo is charged with second-degree murder. The couple's children are staying with family members, police said.

Ortiz-Castillo will be booked into Manatee County jail once he is released from the hospital, police said.
