NORTH PORT, Fla. -- Homeowners in one North Port community are on edge after someone shot up a house in their neighborhood.

Police say it happened around Monday night in the 3700 block of Nekoosa Street. Detectives say no one was hit, but they believe the shooter knew the person living in the targeted home.

However, neighbors who heard the gunshots say it wasn't comforting.

"I was sitting in the living room when it happened. I was right by the window," Helena Gudell said. "My two kids and I were all by windows in the front of the house."

Helena Gudell lives a few houses down.

"You hear all the time about kids get struck by stray bullets in bigger cities," she said.

She moved to the neighborhood about four years ago. She's from Chicago and her husband is from Baltimore.

They moved here "because we didn't want to raise our kids in that type of environment."

She said this is the first time they've heard gunfire in their neighborhood. She's hoping it's the last.

ABC Action News did speak to the man who lives in the house police say was targeted. He told our news crew that he knows who the shooter is, and he did give a description to the detectives.

North Port police do believe this was an isolated situation, and there's no immediate threat to the public.
