BRADENTON, Fla. — There's a brand new health center at Manatee Elementary in Bradenton. It's not your typical nurse's office.
The school district and MCR Health launched the school-based health center to help meet some needs in the community.
"If the whole child is taken care of, then it gives the teachers and the administrators in that building a fighting chance of ensuring they're successful," Manatee County Schools Superintendent Cynthia Saunders said.
School-based health centers have been linked to improved academics, attendance and reducing the rates of suspensions.
Students will be able to get well-exams, sick visits, counseling visits, mental health services and vision and dental screenings.
But, there's also a family practice. Family medicine is available to the general public for wellness exams, sick visits and immunizations.
