MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — Neighbors living near Palma Sola Blvd. are frustrated because dead fish keep popping up in the pond behind their homes. They say the smell is making them sick.

"The pond is yucky," said Linda Garnett.

The water has turned brown, there's a white layer on top and dozens of dead fish floating around.

Garnett has live in the neighborhood for 15 years. She admits this happens at least once a year, but it never lasts this long.

She and her neighbors say they've been dealing with the issue for a month.

"I love living here," Garnett said. "I'm not moving, but something needs to be done."

She has the Gulf across the street, and the pond in her backyard. She usually sits out there to watch the birds.

"We have all these different birds. There are usually hundreds of them, but not anymore," said Garnett.

Neighbors say the strong odor hits them the moment they walk outside. Some of them say it's making them sick.

The county is aware of the problem. They have workers out to test the water, and remove the dead fish from the pond.

The cause is unknown at this time, but ABC Action News was told the cold weather could be a factor.

"It's really sad," Garnett said. "I love living here, and the ponds is beautiful."
