Sarasota Police arrested a man after he struck another man with a meat cleaver after the two got into an argument over food.
Jose Esau Oliva-Granada, 39, allegedly pulled out a meat cleaver and swung it at the victim. The victim told police that he put his hands up to protect himself and got struck. He got a cut on his ring finger and pinky finger which appear to require stitches, according to a police report.
The victim told police that his friend, who witnessed the attack, took the meat cleaver away from Oliva-Granada. At that time, Oliva-Granada allegedly pulled out another knife.
Oliva-Granada was intoxicated, according to the police report.
The victim signed a sworn statement indicating he wished to prosecute the defendant for aggravated battery with serious injury.
