VENICE, Fla. — This week's "Made in the Bay" takes us to Tervis Tumbler in North Venice, Florida.
The Sarasota County-based business has become the industry leader when it comes to insulated drink cups. Tervis was founded by two engineers, Frank Cotter and G. Howlett Davis in 1946. The product got the name TERVIS, because it was a hybrid of the founders' last names.
Tervis' double-walled, insulated cups have gained popularity in recent years as consumers have turned to reusable drink cups that are durable and keep hot and cold drinks practically at the same temperature for hours from the time they are poured.
Tervis turns out more than 8-million cups a year and is also licensed by every major sports league to make their official team cups.
