An observant gas station manager on Longboat Key helped stopped dozens of gas station customers from getting scammed.

Mobil manager, Cindy Dearth, noticed pump eight’s security tape had been tampered with so she check the overnight security camera footage and found out that her suspicion was right.

“I saw them open the door put the skimmer in, put the tape back on, took them two minutes, I just couldn’t believe it,” said Dearth.

Longboat Key detectives believe the two suspects have hit other gas stations in the area. They even use counterfeit security tape to fool clerks.

“They put the skimmer in, then they come back and collect them and then they are trying to turn those cloned credit cards into cash,” said Lt. Bob Borque.

No credit card data was collected in this skimming scheme, because of Dearth’s observation.

"I’m glad they didn’t have a chance to get any persons credit card information I’m really glad,” said Dearth.
