Man shot, killed while driving on I-75 in North Port was targeted: Police

NORTH PORT, Fla. — North Port Police say the man shot and killed while driving on I-75 early Saturday morning was targeted.

Javaris Miller, 23, of Leigh Acres was shot around 3:45 just south of the Toledo Blade exit. He died at the scene.

Miller was driving a white, four-door 2019 Cadillac XTS at the time of the shooting. Police believe the shooting is isolated and includes a second, unknown vehicle.

Anyone who knew or talked to Miller in the days before the shooting is asked to come forward with useful details.

Police are also asking residents in the area who heard gunshots around 3:45 a.m. to let them know. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 941-429-7349.

I-75 south between the Sumter Boulevard (mile marker 182) and Kings Highway (mile marker 170) shut down for hours before reopening.
