SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of an Englewood doctor on Wednesday for multiple counts of sexual battery.
According to a press release, detectives were first alerted by patients of 70-year-old Thomas Lohstreter in December.
The release says one patient went in for treatment on December 23 after becoming sick when she changed medications. The victim said after the female nurse left the room during her appointment, Lohstreter examined her breasts and exposed her genitals for an unknown reason, according to the release.
Detectives interviewed Lohstreter and say he initially denied the allegations, but later admitted to touching the patient during a routine exam.
During its investigation, the sheriff's office says it was alerted to six additional female patients who reported similar misconduct. According to the release, the allegations range from fondling to sexual battery.
Lohstreter was taken into custody Tuesday and booked into the Sarasota County correctional facility. His medical license was suspended on March 9, and he is no longer employed by his former practice, according to the sheriff's office.
Lohstreter is charged with three counts of sexual assault, one count of lewd or lascivious molestation upon an elderly disabled person and one count of battery. He is being held without bond.
