SARASOTA, Fla. — A 16-year-old Sarasota boy was killed and three other teens were hurt in a crash in Sarasota late Friday night.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a teen driving on University Parkway near Blithe Avenue lost control of his car around 11:14 p.m and hit a concrete culvert.
The impact caused the car to go airborne, collide with a utility pole and overturn.
FHP troopers say a 16-year-old boy from Sarasota, who was in the front passenger seat, died as a result of the crash.
Two other teen passengers in the back seat were ejected when the car overturned. According to a news release, these teens were not wearing seat belts.
The car’s 17-year-old driver was also hurt and taken to a nearby hospital.
All three surviving teens are said to have serious injuries.
No names have been released and the Florida Highway Patrol says the crash remains under investigation.
