SARASOTA, Fla. — The City of Sarasota begins single-stream recycling April 1.

Single-stream recycling means residents in Sarasota, where recycling is mandatory, will no longer have to sort through their recyclables. Residents will be able to use their new 65-gallon recycling carts for everything from paper and plastic, to cans and bottles.

However, the city wants to remind residents what can and can not be recycled. To do this, they created a tool where residents can type in the item they want to recycle, and it will tell them whether they can or not.

The city also wants to remind residents not to place loose items in the cart, not to place plastic bags in the cart and to keep it closed from water and animals.
