Manatee Technical College is teaming up with local heating and air conditioning companies and a non-profit to offer tuition-free training to about twelve students next semester.
“All of the trades are clamoring for people, there is a shortage of people going into the trades,” said MTC administrator Martha Meyers.
Meyers said the three-month-long course will give people a guaranteed position at a Manatee/Sarasota County heating and air conditioning company. The starting pay is about $15 per hour.
“There are people that are out there that really need this and they just don’t know there are opportunities like this available,” said Meyers.
Meyers said potential students need to send her an inquiry by the end of this week. All interested in getting into the program should email her at MeyersM@ManateeSchools.net .
Instructors at Manatee Technical College said there is a shortage of installers in Florida.
