There is a very special guest of honor for a birthday party happening Friday at Bishop Animal Services in Bradenton.  Mia, the terrier mix, is turning 12.

"We have cupcakes for the humans and a peanut butter cake for Mia," said staff member Samantha Dominis.

Mia is very used to the staff at the shelter, because she has been living there for a long time.

"She has been at the shelter on and off since November 2009," said Dominis.

Dominis said Mia has been adopted three times, but she has been returned.  Mia has a hard time living with other animals.

"Mia is the most vibrant and spunky 12-year-old dog you will ever meet. She is perfect for a family without any other pets, said Dominis.

Staff members hope the birthday party sends a message to the public.

"We are just trying to show that these guys still have years of love left in them and to give them a chance," said Dominis.
