HOLMES BEACH, Fla. — April Gonzalez and Aaron Lewis are years apart in age, but they are forever bonded after a crazy night at Jessie’s Island Store a few weeks ago.
Police said Jason Bounds was shoplifting at the store. Gonzalez tried stopping him from shoplifting.
"He started to use some bad words and punched me on the side of the face twice and I thought 'it’s on,'” said Gonzalez.
Security camera video shows the clerk jumping on Bounds. Customer Aaron Lewis helped her pull Bounds out of the store.
“It was kind of spur of the moment. I wanted to make sure everyone was safe and just get him out of the situation,” said Lewis.
Thursday afternoon Gonzalez reunited with Lewis. She surprised him at his work on Holmes Beach with a cake and gift certificate.
“He deserves it, I’ve got a friend for life now,” said Gonzalez.
