ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. — Fishermen and business owners in the Cortez Fishing Village are collecting items for Hurricane Michael victims.

“Living in a coastal village, this could be us at any given time,” said organizer Bob Slicker.

You can drop off hygiene items such as toothpaste, toilet paper, and diapers through Thursday in the parking lot next to the Cortez Post Office.

Andy Mika saw the need and dropped off a few items for the people of the panhandle.

“The stuff that you and I wake up in the morning and take for granted, it’s not there for them,” said Mika.

Residents of Cortez were dealing with their own disaster the past two months.  Red tide hurt business owners for much of August and September.

“We’ve gotten through it, we still have buildings and homes to work through it,” said Slicker.

The donations will be delivered this weekend.
