From Manatee County Schools:
Parents who would like to send their enrolling 9TH and 10TH grade child to a school other than the one to which they are assigned for the 2016-2017 school year need to apply during the High School Choice Open Enrollment Session, which runs from Monday, January 11, 2016 Friday, January 22, 2016.
The High School Choice Open Enrollment Session is the only time during the year when parents can apply to have a high school student attend a school outside their assigned zone school without giving a specified reason for the move. High School Choice applications are available during the choice application session of January 11th January 22nd online at www.manateeschools.net by clicking "Hot Topics" then "School Choice", at school sites, and at the Office of Student Assignment, located at 1400 1st Avenue East, in Palmetto.
It is important to note that students new to the school system will need to present a certified birth certificate and the social security number will be requested at the time they apply for school choice. Also, the Choice application must be completed/signed by the enrolling parent of record. Emailed submissions will be verified for Enrolling Parent by the email address entered in the Student Information System (Focus Parent Portal). In person or postal submissions require notary.
School Choice decisions may be of particular interest to parents of students moving from middle to high school because of the variety of academy programs offered at district schools. In addition, parents may use School Choice to enroll their child in the International Baccalaureate Program offered at Southeast High School.
Approval of School Choice applications are subject to enrollment capacities.
Choice transportation is not offered for high school students with the exception of those approved for the International Baccalaureate Program at Southeast High School.
