A 19-year-old man was charged with manslaughter after accidentally shooting his sister that lead to her death Sunday afternoon.
Sarasota Police officers responded to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital in reference to a woman being brought in with a gunshot wound around 4:45 p.m.
According to police reports, 19-year-old Daniel Cortez-Reyes pulled out a semi-automatic handgun that accidentally discharged after pulling out and inserting the magazine into the firearm. Daniel's 20-year-old sister, Leticia Cortez, was shot while their family was having dinner at the kitchen table. Leticia was transported to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital were she later died of her injuries.
At this time, there is on ongoing investigation.
Cortez-Reyes is being held at the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
