Silver Alert canceled after former Lakeland Police Deputy Chief goes missing

A Silver Alert has been canceled for Lakeland Police Department's former Deputy Chief, Clarence Grier.

Grier, 82, was safely located at a Wawa in St. Petersburg Friday afternoon, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

He was originally last seen in the area of the 1000 block of W. 8th St. in Lakeland.

Authorities said there was a hit on his license plate by a reader north of Ocala around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday.

He was last seen wearing a black jacket and jeans, and may be traveling in a 1998 red Ford F150 with FL tag number ID49LX. The vehicle has an extended cab.

Authorities say Grier suffers from dementia/Alzheimers.

Grier was described as a black male, 6-feet tall and weighing 165 lbs.
