A Lakeland Police officer was called out to a power plant to remove a nearly five foot long rattlesnake Sunday night.
Lakeland PD dispatched off-duty Officer Scott Wisneski to the My Lakeland Electric McIntosh Power Plant because he had dealt with this type of thing in the past and owns his own reptile store.
Using grasping tongs, he found the curled up rattlesnake, still very healthy. He lifted the snake and put her in a container to remove her from the plant.
He then called the local handler, permitted for venomous animals, who agreed to take the snake.
They hope to send the snake to a venomous snake farm where it can be used to create anti-venom.
"She might be able to help save someone else's life one day," said Wisneski.
"It's not something you typically associate with the police department, but if we can assist we do," said Wisneski.
