Those red-faced moments talking about a certain lake in Lakeland will keep on happening, it appears.
The U.S. Board of Geographic Names announced this week that Lake Horney will remain Lake Horney, despite a campaign to change its name.
A Lakeland man petitioned the federal agency this spring to change the name of the lake because of countless jokes he’s heard over the years.
The lake is named after Julius T. Horney, a famous developer from Lakeland.
One lady who lives on Lake Horney that she even changed the orientation of her house so she doesn’t have to tell her friends she lives on Lake Horney anymore.
“I call it Lake Hornay. It’s Lake Hornay,” she said with a smile.
