A pedestrian has died after being struck by a train in Lakeland on Wednesday.
Lakeland Police and Lakeland Fire responded to Tennessee Avenue in Downtown Lakeland, in reference to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a train.
According to witnesses, Eric John Velazquez, 34, walked from Munn Park to the train tracks and then appeared to intentionally lean forward into a passing CSX freight train and was hit.
Velazquez was transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
