Posted

Hillsborough County detectives believe they caught a serial burglar.

Deputies arrested Austin Dibkey on charges of burglary and armed burglary for breaking into at least three Sun City homes and running off with jewelry and other valuables.

"He targets specific items and that's what we're looking for," said Major Rob Bullara with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives caught a break on Wednesday.

During their research, deputies managed to link Dibkey to some of the stolen jewelry that had been turned around and sold at pawn shops.

They found at arrested him at a Tampa motel without incident.

Detectives now believe Dibkey has been at it for years and is probably responsible for many more thefts that just the recent three.

"Detectives are going through past cases that are unsolved and see if we can come up with a few more and maybe get some of these peoples merchandise back," he said.

One of the victims told ABC Action News that he broke into their home while they were out at a friends house.

He got away with more than $13,000 in jewelry and cash. Oddly enough, they said, he was very neat, like he didn't want them to know he was ever there.

Deputies believe that could be all part of his plan.
