A 65-year-old man is dead after his truck ran under the trailer portion of a semi at an intersection in Frostproof on Monday evening.
Timothy Caruthers was driving his blue 2003 Chevy S-10 pickup truck southbound on U.S. 27 around 8 p.m. on Monday.
At the same time, a 2006 Kensworth Semi tractor trailer was traveling northbound on U.S. 27, attempting to make a U-turn in the intersection of U.S. 27 and U.S. 98.
Caruthers' truck ran under the trailer of the semi causing extensive damage to himself and the truck. Caruthers, of Hudson, was declared dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
The intersection was closed for approximately 5 hours while Polk County deputies investigated the scene. It does not appear that Caruthers was impaired at the time of the crash.
