POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A Sumter Correctional Institution officer was arrested for DUI in Polk County.

On Jan. 5, deputies responded to a vehicle crash involving an intoxicated driver on County Line Rd. near Lakeland.

Katie Stewart, 30, crashed near Amberjack Blvd. around 3:43 a.m.

When deputies arrived, they saw she was unsteady on her feet and smelled of alcohol. She admitted to having several drinks at a bar before driving.

She failed sobriety tests at the scene and was placed under arrest for DUI. Steart blew a .188G/210L and a .191G/210L.

Stewart is an officer at the Sumter Correctional Institution (Florida state prison in Bushnell, Florida).

"As a Correctional Officer, Ms. Stewart knew the consequences of drinking and driving," Polk Sheriff Grady Judd said. "She should have known better. Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of her irresponsible decisions."
