A 5-year-old boy was killed while he was playing near his home Thursday evening.

According to Polk County Sheriff's deputies, Austin Crawford and his sister, 8, were sitting on their bikes in their neighbors driveway. Deputies say Austin Crawford rode onto Saddlewood Boulevard in Lakeland when a pickup truck hit him. The crash happened before 5 p.m.

"That's one of the worst things you could see," Philip Dagan said.

Dagan said the young boy and his sister were playing on his driveway. He was not home at the time. He pulled up shortly after the crash happened. He noticed people on his driveway and the family of the siblings too.

"Her fiancé tried to do CPR and got tired. I scooted him out of the way and (I) supported (his) neck and was doing CPR and the neighbor across the street was helping me as well. We did that 'til the paramedics got here," Dagan said.

Austin Crawford was taken to Lakeland Regional Health where he died.

"My heart breaks for them. They will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers and if there is anything they need, they already know where I'm at," Dagan said.

Deputies believe the crash was a tragic accident. They continue to investigate.
