A 20-year old woman was killed Sunday in a freak accident when she was hit by a falling palm tree while lying in a hammock at Egmont Key Park.
Officials say her death appears to be accidental.
The woman has been identified at Isabel Melendez of Tampa.
The accident happened around 4 p.m. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office and the Eckerd College Search and Rescue team responded to the state park. Melendez was transported to Bayfront Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Egmont Key State Park is located about 1 1/2 miles offshore from Fort De Soto State Park in Pinellas County.
