ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A female pedestrian is dead after two vehicles crashed into each other in St. Petersburg Monday evening.
The St. Petersburg Police Department responded to a call of a crash near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North and 3rd Avenue North a little before 5 p.m. According to police, a Jeep Patriot was traveling southbound on Dr. Marking Luther King Jr. Street North in the eastern curb lane and a Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on the same road in the center lane.
As the two cars approached 3rd Avenue North, the Ford Mustang turned left from the center lane and hit the Jeep Patriot. As the cars collided, the Ford Mustang drove onto the sidewalk and hit a pedestrian, later identified as 17-year-old Liamar Matos-Gonzalez.
Matos-Gonzalez was pronounced dead on scene.
Officials did not say if either of the drivers are facing charges.
The crash shut down the southbound lanes of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North near 4th Avenue North for hours before reopening.
