PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — The barrier of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge prevented an SUV from submerging into the Tampa Bay on Monday night.

The SUV was left hanging over the barrier after a crash occurred on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge near the 11.5 milepost, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

While the crash closed all the southbound lanes of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, thankfully no injuries were reported.

FHP says it happened when both vehicles were in the outside lane. The front vehicle was stopped for merging traffic due to a lane closure, and the back vehicle failed to stop, thus colliding with the front car and sending it into the barrier.
