SAINT PETERSBURG, FLA. — Organizers have canceled the First Friday event in downtown Saint Petersburg due to rainy weather.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms moved into the downtown St. Petersburg area early Friday evening. As a safety precaution the event known as the city's "biggest block party" was canceled.

"That was the first thing every bartender had said to me was get in a place in Central Avenue, you’re going to love First Fridays," said Ebel.

Organizers say the next First Friday will be scheduled for Friday, September 6.
